Danny Weddle, WFTM sports director and author of How We Play the Game: A History of High School Hoops in Mason County was the guest speaker at the Washington Lions Club. His book covers hoops happenings from the first Maysville newspaper reference to basketball in 1896 to the Mason County Royals' loss in the 2012 10th Region tournament finals. The book's introduction notes it is "not an almanac," meaning that while it is extensive, it's not quite all-inclusive. Weddle said the book "could have been eight inches thick" and that paring it down to a workable length was one of the more challenging parts of the whole process. Weddle, who has called local basketball games on the radio since 1979, said he's kicked around a few ideas for another book.(Article and photo from washingtonlionsclub.com)
